Winter storm watch for most of Iowa

The National Weather Service is predicting a winter storm will impact most of Iowa Sunday and has issued a winter storm watch.

Rain will fall across much of Iowa Sunday morning, then transition to snow from northwest to southeast by the afternoon. A light glaze of ice is possible mainly in northern Iowa Sunday morning before the change to snow occurs.

Strong winds will develop Sunday, leading to blizzard conditions, with blowing snow and reduce visibility. Widespread gusts of 50-60+ mph are possible. Significant reductions in visibility are possible, even in areas with lower snow amounts.

The transition from rain to snow is predicted between the hours of 9 am and noon.

The National Weather Service advises Iowans to consider adjusting any travel plans accordingly.
